Acceptable use policy

Last updated 30 July 2026

What you may point TOntoN at, what you may do with what it produces, and how to ask us to take something down. This stands apart from the terms because customers direct a crawler at third-party sites and receive machine-generated assessments of named companies and people — obligations that deserve to be visible rather than buried.

Who this applies to

This policy applies to the customer and to every seat on the customer's workspace. Recipients of a share link are not bound by it merely by opening a link — the customer is responsible for who it shares a report with and for how that recipient uses it.

What you may direct the crawler at

Publicly accessible pages of a company's own domains; public blog posts, press articles and careers pages; LinkedIn URLs you provide; and material you upload or paste that you hold the rights to. You may not direct it at:

  • Pages behind a paywall, a login wall, or any access control, however weak.
  • Sites whose terms of use prohibit automated access, where those terms bind you.
  • Sources that have reserved text-and-data-mining rights in a machine-readable form.
  • Databases where extraction would amount to a substantial extraction under the sui generis database right.
  • Leaked, hacked, or otherwise unlawfully obtained material.
  • Personal data you have no lawful basis to have us process.

What we do on our side

The crawler fetches up to 80 pages per domain, respects robots.txt directives, and applies standard rate limiting. It does not attempt to bypass access controls. That is our engineering posture — you still decide what to point it at.

What you may upload

You warrant that for every file, link or pasted text you submit you hold the rights necessary for it to be processed as described in the Data-use notice, and that submitting it breaches no contract, licence or confidentiality obligation binding on you. Do not upload malware, special-category personal data (health, biometrics, political opinions, religious belief, trade-union membership, sex life or sexual orientation), criminal-offence data, or material covered by someone else's legal privilege or NDA.

What you may not do to the service

You agree not to:

  • Access another workspace, another tenant, or any account that is not yours.
  • Probe, scan or reverse-engineer the service outside an authorised security test agreed with us in writing.
  • Circumvent analysis caps, seat limits, rate limits or share-link expiry.
  • Extract the Vision ontology — its structure, weights or rubric anchors — by scraping outputs, systematic probing, or otherwise.
  • Resell the service, or wrap it as a competing product, without our written permission.
  • Use the service to build or train a competing model or scoring system.

What you may not do with the output

Reports include assessments of named founders and executives. Have a competent person review a report before acting on it, and do not present it as your own independent verification. You must not use a report:

  • For a decision on employment, recruitment, credit, insurance, education access or an essential service.
  • As the sole or principal basis for any decision producing a legal or similarly significant effect on an individual.
  • To harass, intimidate, disparage or defame anyone.
  • To build a standalone profile database of individuals separate from your analysis of the companies concerned.
  • For publication, resale or public distribution without our written consent.

Take-down, correction and objection

Anyone — customer or not — may write to us to ask that material be removed or corrected: a source owner whose content we analysed, an individual objecting to being profiled or asking for correction or erasure, or a rightsholder asserting infringement. We acknowledge on receipt, action valid requests within 14 days, clear the affected sources from active analyses, and tell you what we did. Where we refuse we say why, and where the request concerned personal data we tell you about your right to complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority.

Enforcement and changes

We may investigate suspected breaches and may suspend or terminate access. Where we can, we give notice and a chance to put it right first; where the risk is immediate we act first and explain after. We give 30 days' notice of material changes to this policy, except where a change is required by law or to address an immediate risk.
